Customer Review: NEEDED IF YOU HAVE HDTV
I recently upgraded my TV to an HDTV and was extremely disappointed in the quality of the picture of the Nintendo Wii coming in via the standard RCA composite cables- Because an HDTV is essentially progressive technology, a composite SD signal is de-interlaced by the TV. This basically means that half the resolution (which is analog SD to begin with) is removed from the picture and it is up to the TV to "rebuild" the bits of missing picture... which it's not so great at. The result is a softened picture with spots of bad (unsmooth) motion and additionally, this process takes a bit of time so there is a hair of a delay... this isn't a problem for most video, but since it's a video game system, you need the responsiveness of your actions to be immediately reflected on screen! Playing a game with a delay in the picture feels like fixing a watch with gardening gloves on. The component cable sends a Progressive image that, while still Standard Definition, doesn't require the de-interlace process, which makes a TON of difference. Colors are more vibrant, the image is crisper and the delay is gone completely! Motion is smooth and precise. This cable is cheap sony games found for more then $30 or $40, but I was able to find it on Amazon via a 3rd party vendor for less then $5 (plus shipping) - a great deal. Get this if you have a Wii and an HDTV... you NEED it.

I bought this as a Christmas present for my 6-year-old nephew after seeing how much fun he had playing with the one we had for our own Wii. I know the point of buying this is mostly for the zapper itself, and it is immensely useful for many games on the Wii. But the game that comes with it is loads of fun too, and we enjoy it a lot. In fact, the one I bought for ourselves came with a non-working game, and I returned it to the store to get a new one because of it. We bought it more for the game than the zapper. The game is enjoyable even if you don't already have the full Zelda game for the Wii; in fact you don't even have to know anything about the Zelda games or the universe to enjoy it. It's just a practice shooting game, shooting at stable and moving targets and enemies. This game is fun for adults as well as kids, though the younger children might not be able to play very well as it does require a lot of hand-eye coordination. (You're aiming a gun/crossbow essentially.) It is easy to use, though it might be a bit tricky to wrap the nun-chuck cord the first time or two. I think the handling of the zapper is pretty natural, and works well for right and left-handed people. Those with larger hands may have a bit of trouble, but not much. There's really not much else to say, since most of it is pretty self-explanatory. Have fun!

Gameplay: Getting Your Band Together
In Wii Music every band has six members: Two play the main melody, two cover the percussion beats, one covers the bass groove and one uses the song's chords to support the melody. As a band, the six members often play their special parts at the same time, though each player can jam however and whenever he or she wants. Play all at once. Take turns in the spotlight. Pair up in creative ways throughout the song. You can bring the band to life by yourself, playing one part at a time-or with up to four players. See game mode below:

• Solo Play: When you play by yourself, you can add one part at a time to arrange the whole song exactly how you want. The Tutes are on hand to back up your band in any parts you need filled.
• Multiplayer: When in a band with friends, up to four people can be band members.
• Wii Friends: Using WiiConnect24, you can send your jam videos to Wii Friends who own Wii Music. They can then watch your performance, modify it to their liking and send their jam videos back to you.

Tutes: Your Own Private Back-up Band
When not playing with friends, you can invite jam masters known as Tutes to play with you. They'll join a session playing an instrument that each thinks is strong for a specific song. You can simply enjoy the musical camaraderie, or pick up instrument tips by watching them jam. If you choose to watch, the Tutes will show you lots of techniques for many of these instruments, then ask you to follow their examples. They'll start with the simplest techniques, then as you master each one, show you even more nuanced ones.
